Diabetes

Native Americans have the highest prevalence of diabetes among all U.S. racial and ethnic groups. Diabetes is a complicated disease, and the Sault Tribe Diabetes Program offers services to help our clients learn how to manage the disease and live full lives.

Nutrition

Proper nutrition can help you lose weight and prevent and/or manage diabetes. Good nutrition can help you perform at optimal levels while exercising and competing in sports and other physical activities. Proper nutrition is important for expectant mothers. Find healthy recipes and learn how a Sault Tribe registered dietitian can help you.

Physical Activity

Regular physical activity is as important as good nutrition in controlling weight and living longer, healthier lives. Exercising regularly reduces the risk of developing diabetes and high blood pressure and reduces the risks of developing and dying from some of the leading causes of illness and death in the United States.

Tobacco

Tobacco (Semaa) is a sacred medicine to the Anishnaabe people. But when tobacco is abused in ways such as smoking cigarettes or cigars or chewing tobacco, it causes serious illness and disease, even death. Native Americans have the highest prevalence of tobacco use among all major racial/ethnic groups. You can quit!
